Tenant verification helped cops nab sandalwood smugglers

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Thursday said that during tenant verification drive they arrested Sandalwood smugglers in North East Delhi's Welcome area. Police said that the recovered sandalwoods are more than 1000 kilograms.

According to police during the tenant verification drive staff of staff of welcome police station detected some suspicious material in plastic bags. When checked red colour wood was found in the bags which seemed to be sandal wood.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Atul Kumar Thakur said that when enquired the two accused Mohammad Nadeem (resident of Welcome) and Me Basil (resident of Angappan street Mannaday in Chennai) have reveled that Basil had brought the wood from Channai and it was to be trasported to Moradabad UP for handicraft work.

Police further added that the wood was got checked from the officials of forest Deptt. And they confirmed that it is sandal or Kher woo. The total quantity of wood is 1340 kg.

A case under sections 379/411/120B IPC & 2/33/42 INDIAN FOREST ACT, 1927 was registered and both the accused were arrested.
