Teenager killed, 3 injured as building collapses in Noida

The incident occurred when demolition work was underway at the house

Noida: A teen aged boy was killed while three other children including two girls were critically injured after a portion of two storey under construction building collapsed in Nithari area under sector 20 police station jurisdiction on Monday evening. Cops said the building that collapsed was being demolished for renovation purposes.

According to police, the incident took place around 4:30 pm when the portion of a house collapsed on a narrow street apparently to the house that was being demolished for renovation work.

Cops said that the boy who was killed in the incident was identified as Luv (10), who hailed from Darjeeling, while those injured were Sonali Yadav (18), Barkha Sharma (17) and Shakeel (12).

"The incident occurred when demolition work was underway at the house. People moving on road were trapped in the debris. Around three people including two children were injured, while another child has died in the incident. The rescue operation continued for around three hours. Victims were admitted to hospital while the body of deceased had been sent for post mortem," said Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gautam Buddh Nagar.

Officials from Noida authority said that the "old house" was under renovation. "The owner, Vijender Awana, had got the walls and the ceiling on the backside broken first. But due to carelessness, they left the porch on the front side hanging, which today collapsed falling on the street outside the house," said Rajesh Kumar Singh, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Noida authority.

By the time of writing the report, the city Magistrate of Noida, Shailendra Mishra said that an FIR has been registered against the accused persons in the matter and the contractor has also been arrested by police, however, the Station house officer (SHO) of sector 20 police station, Manoj Kumar Pant said that they are still waiting for a written complaint to file an FIR into the case

Locals said that the owner of the house had couple of other buildings in the vicinity who he had rented them to tenants. The buildings were poorly maintained while renovation work was carried out without proper precautionary measures placed.
