Teachers' training: All govt schools to get coordinator

NEW DELHI: Aiming at the teachers' training, the Delhi government has created a new post at its schools, named Teacher Development Coordinator. This person will solely responsible for the regular training of the teachers. This new initiative of the government takes forward the mentor teachers programme introduced last year. At the beginning of the current academic year, the heads of schools have been asked to select one of the senior teachers of the school.
The Deputy CM through a letter to all 50,000 government school teachers has asked them to come forward and contribute in shaping the agenda of teaching-learning in their schools along with their principals.
"The Government believes that a senior teacher in the role of Teacher Development Coordinator can create a platform for peer learning among the teachers and they would be able to explore new ideas and processes of learning," Sisodia said. He elaborated that the role of a teacher is not just to ensure that her student learns the subject taught by them but also how it can make them better human being.
The minister further said that there has to be a convergence among different subjects so that the child gets the holistic picture. This is possible only if the teachers question the role of their respective subject in the life of the child, the topic they teach and how it is connected with other subjects.
"I believe that TDCs along with Mentor Teachers under the leadership of School Principals would be able to create an environment in the schools where such discourse would be possible," said Sisodia.
As a run-up to this workshop, the TDCs have participated in the induction sessions organised by the 9 District Institute of Educational and Training (DIETs) in Delhi where the faculties oriented them about their role in schools and how they can work closely with their respective Principals and peers to create a culture of learning support for each other.
The Government also has planned to organise national and international level exposure to the TDCs to enhance their worldview apart from regular thematic training.
Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia on Tuesday launched the Teacher Development Coordinator (TDC) Programme at Thyagraj Stadium, New Delhi. The session was also attended by Atishi Marlena, Advisor to Deputy CM. The dignitaries were welcomed by Sunita Kaushik, Director SCERT Delhi and the session was led by Som Tyagi on behalf of Cell for Human Values, DIET Daryaganj.
