SUV driver tries to run over Gurugram traffic cop, held

Another incident of road rage was witnessed in Gurugram's most upscale area of MG road where an SUV driver tried to run over a traffic cop when asked to stop for checking on Wednesday.
The driver who was driving the Toyota Fortuner was brazen enough to indulge in the daring act during the day time where there is a rush hour at Mall Mile. The incident was reported around 3 pm near DT City Centre mall.
According to the police, the driver who has been identified as Sunil refused to stop the vehicle and in order to intimidate the traffic cops started mouthing profanities at them. He then tried to rush away from the spot and run over one of the cops when he tried to stop the vehicle. The driver was later arrested.
On Thursday, a high level meeting of District police official was held that was presided under Samardeep Singh DCP (traffic).
It was decided among the officials that though tough action against the culprits will continue, the police on their part will try to be composed and be calm in order to tackle with angry commuters.
Notably, this is not for the first time when cops have been targeted by commuters in such a manner. In the wee hours of June 24, two drunken youths tried to run over the Station Head Officer (SHO) of Sector-29 police station when they were asked to stop for surveillance. A traffic cop was seriously injured near IFFCO Chowk when he was hit by a drunken driver.
Recently, a group of youngsters at MG Road also dispersed away by armed policemen led by Vikas Kaushik Sector-29 SHO after they were charging towards the policemen to harm them physically. Many drunken drivers and rash drivers who have been penalised for their unlawful act have also got into scuffle with the law enforcement personnel.
