Suspecting affairs, man killed wife, dumped body in Jungle

NEW DELHI: Twenty days after the decomposed body of a woman was found in the forest area of Lajpat Nagar, Delhi Police has arrested her husband Sanjay Kumar for murdering her. The accused has revealed that he strangulated his wife with a muffler after he suspected her of having multiple affairs with other men.

On January 21 at 10.31 am, a PCR call regarding dead body of a woman lying in the forest area behind HPL Company, Lajpat Nagar was received at by police. At the spot, an unknown body of woman aged about 40-42 years was found. The body was in the decomposed condition and parts of the body were eaten by the animals.

Later, the body was cremated and the photographs of the deceased were shown to a boy who said his mother has been missing and on seeing the photographs, the boy identified the body to be of his mother Geeta Devi.

"During the investigation, the son of the deceased revealed that he used to live with his mother and step-father Sanjay Singh at Garhi village. His mother used to work as domestic help on a part-time basis and his father worked as rickshaw-puller. The child further alleged that there used to be a regular quarrel between his mother and step-father," said Additional DCP, Sout East, Ghanshyam Bansal.

Accused Sanjay got tired from these frequent quarrels and to end this, he hatched a conspiracy to kill his wife. On January 13, accused Sanjay Kumar hired a rickshaw and took his wife Geeta Devi to forest area behind HPL Company, Lajpat Nagar. They both de-boarded the rickshaw at Bhogal and further went inside the secluded forest area, on foot. Once deep inside the jungle, Sanjay strangulated his wife with muffler and killed her and later fled to Aligarh.
