New Delhi: Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday inaugurated the Bharat-Asean Maitri Park at Tughlaq road here, stating that the park would serve as a positive and vibrant means for strengthening and communicating the friendship of Asean countries to residents of Delhi and visitors to the park.
She also lauded New Delhi Municipal Council for developing the park in a short span of time.
Earlier the Council had dedicated some of its gardens to Indo-Africa Friendship Rose Gardens, BRICS Rose Garden and renamed some important locations to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Marg and Teen Murti Haifa Chowk.
New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi too lauded the park and extended her gratitude to NDMC for dedicating such gardens and parks for national diplomacy, on the occasion of important diplomatic events.
NDMC Chairman Naresh Kumar said the park will be a symbol of India–ASEAN Friendship. He further said that Delhi, the national Capital, was culturally vibrant, where traditional and modern culture move hand in hand.
