Suicide victims were suspected of having affair

NEW DELHI: A day after a man and a woman committed suicide inside a hotel in west Delhi's Rajouri Garden, police have found that they were relatives and the reason being their suicide was their relationship being seen as illicit by their family.
According to police, the deceased man was an engineer, while the woman was working as a nurse and was his brother's wife.
Police claimed that their relatives thought the two were having an affair, which resulted in them leaving their house and they booked a hotel online where they committed suicide.
The man had recently got a new job in Jaipur, for which he had came to Delhi from Kerala. Both were reportedly depressed by the slander that their relatives had thrown upon them.
"We questioned several persons in this regard, after which we came to know of the reason, which we suspect made them take the extreme step," said a police official.
On Saturday, around 5.25 pm, the police were informed that the couple was not opening the door of their room.
The police reached the hotel, broke open the door and found the male, aged around 29 years, and the female, around 27 years old, lying lifeless on the bed.
