Students clash with cops, security personnel

A group of Jawaharlal Nehru University students embroiled in a clash with Delhi Police personnel during a protest demonstration outside the University Grants Commission's (UGC) Building against the Commission's notification issued in 2016 which led to a massive reduction in number of seats in MPhil and PhD programmes.

During the protest it was seen that the female police staff had to forcefully remove some of the agitating girls who sat on the roads obstructing the traffic. Motorists and DTC buses were seen stranded as the students blocked their way by sitting and protesting on the road outside the UGC office.

During the protest, a minor scuffle also broke out between the agitating students and some passers- by. The DCP, Central District, came to the spot in an effort to control the crowd of student protesters.
Meanwhile, some other JNU students clashed with private security guards inside the University campus on Friday while the UGC protest was ongoing. The students staged a sit-in outside JNU's northern gate, after which some security personnel tried to close the gate and stopped people from entering the campus, which triggered a minor clash.
