Speeding truck runs over two students

Ghaziabad: In a tragic road accident, two young students were killed after their Scooty slipped and a speeding truck coming from behind ran over them at NH-9 in Dasna area of Ghaizbad on Monday morning. Cops said that the students were on the way to their college when the incident took place.

According to police, the deceased were identified as Virendra Kumar (22) and Sunny (20), natives of Vijay Nagar area. Both were students of ITI at Bhagwati college in Masuri area of Ghaziabad.

"The incident occurred around 11:30 when the students were riding on a Scooty to their college on NH-9. Due to the construction work on the highway, their Scooty slipped and a speeding truck coming from behind ran over them. A passerby conveyed information to police, following which a team rushed to the spot and the bodies were taken to hospital where they succumbed to injuries. The bodies have been sent for the postmortem while further investigations are underway," said Om Prakash Singh, Station House officer at Masuri police station.

The officer further said that the truck belongs to Bharat Gas agency while the driver has also been arrested by the police.

"Following the incident, police have seized the truck while the truck driver, identified as Virender Kumar, native of Bihar, has also been arrested by police. Moreover, based on the complaint filed by victim's kin an FIR under Section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the truck driver," added Singh.
