Speeding car kills mechanic
New Delhi: A 23-year-old mechanic was fatally knockdown on Sunday by a speeding Chevrolet Cruze in South-East Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area. The woman who was driving rashly fled the spot after the incident. The accused has been identified as Ananya Khurana, a resident of Lajpat Nagar-II. Police have arrested her in the case.
When asked whether the girl was drunk at the time of the incident, police said that they have taken blood sample of the accused to ascertain the fact.
The investigating agency said that two others were injured. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South-East, Chinmoy Biswal said, "The deceased, identified as Afaq, was changing the tyre of the car when the incident took place."
Police claimed that at around 1:40 am, he was called to change the tyre of a car near Moolchand Underpass at Ring Road.
DCP Biswal said that Rudra Aashish Pandey along with his friends Nitish and Gaurav was returning home (Okhla) in the car after attending a marriage at Moti Bagh when one of the tyres burst near the underpass because of which Nitish had called for a mechanic.
The speeding vehicle was coming from the direction of AIIMS when the accident occurred.
Nitish and Gaurav were also injured in the incident. "The offending car was being driven by a girl who fled away from the spot leaving her car behind," police further said adding that Afaq died due to injuries.
The accused Ananya (21) lives in Lajpat Nagar-II. She has completed her studies in USA, having a diploma in makeup artist and had returned to India in Dec 2018.
