Special Cell seizes large haul of illegal firearms, two held

NEW DELHI: A team of Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested two notorious ammunition suppliers, and recovered 1,310 illegal live cartridges of .32 and .315 bore.
The accused were identified as Sandeep Yadav (25) and Mahipal (42), both residents of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
On November 16, cops received a tip that Mahipal would come to Wazirabad to supply arms. A police team spotted him coming on a motorcycle immediately nabbed him.
While searching Mahipal, police found him to be carrying 360 live cartridges of .315 bore and .32 bore inside his rucksack.
Based on Mahipal's information, Yadav was later arrested from Akrabad in Aligarh. 950 more live illegal cartridges of .32 and .315 bore were recovered from his possession.
During their interrogation, the arrested accused revealed that they, as well as other criminals are procuring ammunition from 'gun houses', many of which are based in Dhar, Burhanpur and Khargone districts of Madhya Pradesh and Munger in Bihar.
"During interrogation, the accused Mahipal disclosed that the gun house license is in the name of his brother. He came into the contact of several criminals of Delhi and UP, and started supplying illegal ammunitions to them on higher prices.
"They, along with their associates, have supplying arms to criminals for over three years and have till date supplied more than 20,000 cartridges to criminals in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh," said DCP Special Cell PS Kushwah said on Saturday.
In the recent past, large quantities of illegal arms have been recovered by police in Delhi-NCR.
