Spaces under 12 flyovers spruced up by SDMC

NEW DELHI: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday announced that it has developed theme-based beautification at spaces underneath flyovers at 12 different locations, identified for improvement after directions from Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.
During one of his inspections, Baijal had directed senior officers of SDMC to undertake an exercise for improvement of the spaces under flyovers along Ring Road.
After a detailed joint survey by the officers of Engineering and Horticulture departments, it was observed that improvement in the form of construction of boundary wall along with grill, pathways, shrubs, fixing of sculptures, comfortable benches and attractive entry points were required.
A major challenge to the beautification work was eviction of unauthorised occupants, removal of illegally parked vehicles and other encroachments. All the work was completed in 30-40 days.
All flyovers had different themes, such as Make in India, Yoga, Meditation, Wildlife, Children's Park and Teachings of Mahatama Gandhi.
The beautified flyovers include Lajpat Nagar Flyover (Ring Road), South Extension, Savitri, Africa Avenue, Sarai Kale Khan, Nehru Place, Kalkaji, Bijwasan, Palam, Tilak Nagar, Mayapuri and Raja Garden.
