South Delhi Mayor dismisses allegations, calls them baseless

New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat on Thursday dismissed the allegations by Aam Aadmi Party that the collection of conversion charges is illegal and the amount collected as conversion charges has been transferred into the general account from the escrow account.
"The leaders of AAP have the habit of leveling baseless charges against elected representatives.
"They are ignorant and unaware of facts and do not verify facts before levelling allegations and diverting their state government's failure for not declaring the 351 roads as commercial/mixed use," the South Delhi Mayor said.
Sehrawat further said that no money, as alleged by AAP leader Dilip Pandey had been transferred to the general account from the escrow account.
"There is no misappropriation in the funds of escrow account. It is on record that an amount of Rs 1,19,571.34 lakh has been collected by the Corporation in the last five years in the escrow account. Out of this money, Rs 270 crore has already been spent on construction of parking lots.
"The remaining amount Rs 925 crore is still in the escrow account," she stated.
The civic body has already developed 11 multi-level parking in its Central, South and West Zones, at places like Munirka, Subhash Nagar – six block, Rajouri Garden, Subhash Nagar – 10 block, Kalkaji and New Friends Colony among other places.
She added that instead of pointing figure to SDMC, AAP Government should concentrate in discharging its duties towards the local body.
