Smart City initiatives: NDMC bags digital payment award

New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) bagged "Digital Payments Innovation Award" under the five lakhs population category of Smart Cities. The award was felicitated by Hardeep S Puri, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, in the Smart City Conference at the two days Second Apex Conference of Smart City CEOs held at Convention Centre at NDMC Head Quarter on Tuesday.

Speaking after inaugurating the conference and felicitating with Digital Payment Award to NDMC, Puri extended his congratulation to the NDMC for their excellent performance in Smart City Initiatives undertaken in Capital City by NDMC.

The Minister said that NDMC should guide to the other civic bodies of Delhi to replicate the Smart City Initiative Projects for delivery of citizen centric services. He urged the citizen for behavioral change towards their civic responsibilities as well as civil duties of the citizenship.

Delhi LG Anil Baijal said that the other civic bodies like three Municipal Corporations and Delhi Cantonment Board should follow the footprints of NDMC in making an impact on ease of living for citizens in terms of sustainable environment and application of Smart Solutions.

After receiving the Digital Payment Award, NDMC Chairman, Naresh Kumar informed that NDMC had launched India's 1st of its kind in-home Smart Bill Payment initiative, where it had arranged to develop novel "Smiley Fridge Magnets" for the digital payment of utility bills. These magnets had been distributed to Electricity and Water consumers of New Delhi area. He further informed that 1,000 fridge magnet had been distributed in the first phase and 5,000 will be distributed by the end of this month. And total 25,000 NDMC consumers would be covered by May, 2019 under the scheme, he added.
