Skullcap assault: 500 CCTVs checked to find accused
Gurugram: It was not an easy task for the special investigating team (SIT) of Gurugram police that probed the images of over 500 CCTV cameras to get the image of the accused charged with beating Barkhat Alam.
The law enforcement officials have released the images and have asked for the citizens to provide information on the attacker. The releasing of the image holds relevance in a case that has witnessed a lot of twists and turns from the time the case emerged on Saturday evening. Where it was earlier alleged that the case was a result of a hate crime the evidence that later came to fore led to the Gurugram police affirming that this was not a case to disrupt communal disharmony.
The police conducted the investigation at nearby liquor vends, shops and other business establishments. Some sweepers are seen in the said footage also joined the investigation. Assistance from cyber experts was taken to analyse the mobile phone calls dump details of the area. Besides, eminent persons from different communities were asked to help the police identify the accused, Gurugram Police Commissioner Muhamad Akil, who is also monitoring the investigation, has promised the victim a thorough investigation and strict action against the culprits.
The police said they have got some significant leads and the accused will be nabbed soon, adding that nobody will be allowed to disrupt the peace and take law in own hands.
Gurugram police commissioner Muhammad Akil said the accused were under the influence of alcohol and the crime had no connection to any organisation or group.
"This is a criminal incident and (a) criminal has no religion. The accused might have been involved in many such other crimes," he said.
