Six of Ggn's 35 police stations have no toilets for women

GURUGRAM: An RTI query filed by prominent Gurugram-based social activist Harinder Dhingra has revealed that of the 35 police stations in Haryana's richest district, 18 stations do not have lockups for women prisoners.
The RTI reply also revealed that six of the 35 toilets do not even have toilets for women.
Shockingly, the police stations which have these deficiencies are not those located outside the city, but include some that are located within the city centre.
The stations without lockups for women include Rajendra Park, Sector-14, Shivaji Nagar, New Colony, Udyog Vihar, Bajghera, Sector-10, Sector-18, Sector-9A, Metro police, Sector-53, Sushant Lok, Manesar, Kherki Dhaula, Badshahpur and Sohna City police stations.
Those police stations which do not have toilets for women are Sector-14, New Colony, Bajghera, Sector-50, Sohna City and Kherki Dhaula.
Infrastructural deficiencies, especially lack of toilets, are a sign of discomfort not only for woman complainants but also for woman officials who work in these major stations.
There have also been reports that the budget earmarked for enhancing the infrastructure has not been utilised by the authorities.
For a city that has been witnessing a sharp spike in various crime, long-standing demands for modernisation of the over 3,500 strong police force is another major issue.
Sources in Gurugram Police said that the process of upgradation is being carried out.
Earlier this year, 10 police stations were added in the city, most of which are facing a dearth of basic facilities.
Earlier too, challenges such as lack of proper accommodations for police officials, shortage of vehicles and shortcomings in the police helpline numbers had been raised.
