New Delhi: Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday inspected the streetscaping on a 500-metre stretch from Shantivan crossing to Rajghat and directed officials to complete the work at a fast pace without compromising on quality, an official statement said.

He said the beautification of Delhi roads as per global standards will give a new identity to the national capital and will make residents feel proud. The Kejriwal government is transforming 16 road stretches on a pilot basis in the first phase while 540 km of PWD roads will be beautified subsequently, he said.

"Taking cognisance of the pace of work, the Deputy Chief Minister pulled up the engineers and directed them complete the work at a faster pace," the statement said. Sisodia also directed them to leverage the monsoon season and complete the plantations on the stretch during this time, it added.

Our aim is to make all the roads under the Delhi government pedestrian-friendly and provide a pleasant commuting experience to residents of Delhi. Under the street scaping project, the Delhi Government is working on decongesting, redesigning and beautifying several roads across the national capital.

"Redesigning of roads will eliminate bottlenecks and improve aesthetics of the road stretch that will include facilities like open air sitting areas, barrier-free walking area, ornamental plantations, cycling tracks," the statement quoted Sisodia as saying.
