Sharda University brawl: FIR ordered against Bajrang Dal men

Greater Noida: Taking cognisance of the brawl that took place in Sharda University her last week, Gautam Buddh Nagar district magistrate BN Singh on Friday held a meeting with students and officials of the varsity so as to bridge the gap between foreign and local students.

Singh also directed police to register an FIR against Bajrang Dal activist Deepak Sharma and others for escalating a minor scuffle among the university students into a communal issue.

"The meeting was called to build confidence among the foreign and local students and discuss the role of a few anti-social elements who try to disrupt peace in the campus. I have asked university management to restrict outsiders entry to university campus and identify such students who are trying to instigate the matter," the district magistrate said.

He added, "Police officials have been directed to arrest such student under section 151 for disruption of peace."

"Following the orders and taking cognisance of the matter, we have booked Deepak Sharma, Ved Nagar and other right wing activists for rioting and instigating students. The duo had made inflammatory statements in the university campus and had also posted videos on Facebook," said Arvind Pathak, station house officer, Knowledge Park police station.

On Thursday evening, as many as 350 students of the private university were booked at Knowledge Park police station for rioting after they created ruckus in the campus demanding ouster of Afghani students.

The brawl began last Monday when two groups of India and Afghanistan students clashed over a 'petty' affair.

Multiple videos emerged showing face-off between various students. The varsity management had suspended three Afghan students and sent show-cause notice to ten others regarding the incident.

"A few anti-social outsiders disrupted peace in the campus by instigating students against each other. We will deal strictly with them," said Ajit Kumar, spokesperson, Sharda University.
