Security measures stepped up for MCG polls

Gurugram: Security measures have been stepped on account of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) elections that is slated to be held on September 24.
With the key process of filing candidature stating from Friday, the District administration has imposed Section-144 around the mini-secretariat.
All the applicants have been advised to come with three people while filing the nomination.
Moreover, the Gurugram police have also asked the residents who are owners of licensed weapons to submit their arms. The weapons will be returned on August 30 after the elections process is over.
There seems to be a high demand for citizens in Gurugram applying for licensed weapons. Over 400 applications are received on yearly basis by Gurugram Police for possession of licensed weapons, out of which 150 had been accepted.
Not only is there a huge number of new applications received by Gurugram Police but many citizens in Gurugram are also filing applications to renew the licenses of their weapons.
In most cases deadly weapons are treated as indispensable family assets.
Besides applications for licensed weapons for banks and other places which require high security measures, most of the individuals are also filing applications for possession of licensed weapons.
While a major reason for possessing a licensed weapon is said to for security purposes, many citizens are applying for the possession of weapons for a status symbol.
