Secret chamber in truck used to smuggle drugs, 2 arrested

NEW DELHI: In a major success in the crackdown on inter-state gang of narcotics smugglers, a team of Delhi police has arrested two narcotics smugglers identified as Rajkumar (33) and a resident of Hapur and Kanhaiya Lal (45) a resident of Bulandshahr along with a Tata Container truck having a built in secret chamber and recovered 205.100 kgs of Marijuana.

DCP South East Chinmoy Biswal said, "A secret chamber has been built secretly to conceal the transported narcotics in the seized container truck. The secret chamber in the truck has an iron wall erected between the driver's cabin and the container of the truck. The cavity was especially designed to hide/camouflage the narcotics. If checked, the container would appear to have been empty."

The South-East district, being a border district has been keeping a vigil over activities of drug peddlers and inter-state smuggling of narcotics across various states. Secret information was received by ASI Surender and ASI Ajeet posted at Govindpuri regarding transportation of Marijuana from Odisha and the same was to be delivered in Delhi NCR in Tata Container truck.

On the intervening night of July 3 and 4, the team laid a trap near Okhla Round About, Okhla Estate Road. At about 2:30 am, a container truck was seen coming from Mathura roadside and was going towards Kalkaji. The team signalled the container driver to stop but the driver rather than slowing down the vehicle speed up the container. However, the team successfully intercepted the container and nabbed the driver and his helper.
