SDMC to ensure all wards comply with SWM rules

New Delhi: SDMC on Friday said that it has initiated action to make all its wards solid waste management (SWM) Rules Compliant in a period of one year as the NGT, in its earlier order, had directed the civic body to turn its three wards as model wards for implementation of the SWM Rules 2016 within six months.

Subsequently the Chief Secretary, Govt. of Delhi directed SDMC to move further in this direction. In turn, SDMC issued a notification to this effect on March 22 wherein the three wards R.K.Puram, Andrews Ganj and Janakpuri South have been notified to be transformed as model wards for making them SWM Rules Compliant.

SDMC Commissioner, Dr Puneet Kumar Goel has instructed all the zonal authorities concerned to initiate a new campaign from May 20 to facilitate and educate the garbage generators in the process of segregation and management of solid waste as per rules of MSW 2016. The compliance of the rules is essential to reduce burden on sanitary landfill site and make Delhi green & our localities most beautiful, lovable, clean and green.

He exhorted all stake holders to join hands with SDMC to achieve the target of a SWM Rules compliant city in the country.

The residents have been requested to spare two hours from 8 am to 10 am on Sunday for this purpose and gather in front of their houses and at nearby gardens and roads. This exercise will go a long way in bringing awareness on the subject which is also crucial as far as Swachh Bharat initiative is concerned.

The SDMC officials said that directions have already been issued to the field officers for expediting the compliance. The added that General public is being informed that segregation of MSW pal Solid Waste) is required to be done at source itself.

All households, restaurants and all waste generators including bulk generators are requested to take note of this and start segregation at source.
