SDMC sanitary inspector arrested for bribery
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested an SDMC Sanitary Inspector for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 in exchange for passing attendance sheets of sanitary workers in Tilak Nagar area.
The agency arrested Sukhram Meena of SDMC based on a complaint registered by the Sanitary Supervisor of the area, who was trying to get attendance sheets of his workers passed.
As per the FIR registered by the agency, Meena had asked for Rs 25,000 in bribe in exchange for fast-tracking the approval procedure for some 15-odd "safai karmacharies".
When the complainant refused to pay the bribe, Meena had threatened to not pass the attendance roster for his workers and also said that he would make his life hell by dumping garbage near his residence.
CBI investigators when tried to gather evidence of the bribe through phone conversation, were told that Meena was smart enough not to make such demands over the phone.
Eventually, agency sleuths laid a trap for Meena and arrested him from the area near Bhagat Singh Park, after having recorded a conversation between the complainant and him, in which he is heard asking for the bribe.
