SDMC launches scheme for meal to deprived at Rs 10

New Delhi: SDMC on Monday moved ahead in the direction of providing the nutritious full meal to more and more needy persons from EWS in a phased manner by launching its Atal Jan Aahar Yojana from the five different locations. Long lines were seen at all the five centres to get fresh cooked food comprising puri, rice, chhole and halwa in a thali. The beneficiaries looked more than satisfied while relishing the food.
The food comprising a combination of puris, chapaties, rice, rajma, subzi, chhole, rajma and halwa will be available for sale at just Rs 10 daily from 11 am to 2 pm. SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat along with Chairman Standing Committee, Bhupender Gupta, launched the scheme from Matiala Chowk under Najafgarh zone.
Speaking on the occasion, Sehrawat expressed her pleasure that an important assurance in the election manifesto is being fulfilled on the Good Governance Day, the birth anniversary of the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. "The yojana is being implemented in a phased manner; hence, it will be expanded in terms of more beneficiaries and more centres and distribution timings to include dinner," she added.
Dy Mayor Kailash Sanka along with BJP organising secretary, Sidharthan launched Yojana from - B1 block, Cloth Market in Raghubir Nagar. On the occasion, Siddharthan appreciated SDMC for making Atal Ji's dream come true while providing food at very reasonable rate to mitigate the effect of so called inflation.
Standing Committee Chairman Gupta stated that SDMC will be able to reach out to more persons of weaker sections.
Leader of the House Shikha Rai along with New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi started distribution of thali from Green Park under South Zone. Lekhi described the new initiative of SDMC as pro-poor and in tune with the sustainable development goals.
