SDMC impounds 142 vehicles in a day for illegal parking

NEW DELHI: As per the instructions of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to act promptly against illegal parking on major roads, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday impounded a total of 142 vehicles from its area.
SDMC informed that seven vehicles in central zone were impounded and an amount of Rs 3,500 was collected for their release.
36 vehicles were impounded and 35 were fined in south zone and an amount of Rs 40,150 was collected. A total of 31 vehicles were also impounded in the west zone on Monday.
A senior SDMC official said that the drivers, owners, in the first instance have been asked to remove parked vehicles from the road side.
"Those who fail to follow the norms are being booked under the appropriate provisions. Apart from this, they are being substantially fined," he said.
He further said that the repeated violations are being compounded on the hourly and daily basis.
"Teams have been acting to disseminate a sense of deterrence and make the vehicle owners or drivers imbibe a habit of parking only at authorized parking places," the official added.
