SDMC exempts vehicles from paying Environment Compensation Charge

New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) would exempt vehicles from paying "Environment Compensation Charge" only after obtaining the radio frequency identification device (RFID) tag as per the Supreme Court's direction.

The vehicles which will be exempted are CNG vehicles, oil tankers carrying petroleum products, water tankers, ambulances, and fire fighting vehicles. Similarly, all vehicles which carry goods- such as eggs, salt, ice, food grains, vegetables and packed milk would be exempted from paying ECC after pre-registration for RFID tag following the order of the Supreme Court, a senior SDMC official said that the. The facility of pre-registration and RFID tag is available at eight operational toll plazas- Aya Nagar, DND Flyway, Shahdara Main, Shahdara Flyover, Tikri Border, Kapashera Border, Rajokari Border and Kundli Border, he said. According to the official, all unladed commercial vehicles entitled for paying 50 per cent of charges must have got their vehicles pre-registered for RFID tags for getting the facility for paying half ECC while entering Delhi from any of the operational toll plazas.

The vehicles which are over 10 years old will not be registered and not allowed entry into Delhi, he added.
