SDMC declares 'war' against unauthorised constructions

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday announced an 'all out war' against unauthorised construction in its area by directing engineers right from junior engineer up to executive engineer to act swiftly on complaints against unauthorised construction.
SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said that the engineers must keep deliberative as well as executive wing abreast about their action plan for the coming two days.
She also asked them to listen to the suggestions of the councilors and try to make them understand the seriousness of the matter.
The Mayor expressed concern over a few recent comments of the Delhi High Court and instructed engineers of the civic body to take a cue from the comments to take all corrective measures.
However, Sehrawat stated that despite all adversities, the high court has also expressed satisfaction over the promptness of the SDMC.
She further stated that SDMC has been regularly monitoring the situation.
The Leader of House, Shikha Roy said that it is time to change the perception of the Corporation.
"We have to take action against the properties mentioned in various PILs and complaints received from the general public. It is our testing time, hence, no engineer will be spared for his slackness and intentional mistakes. We have to make our all localities free from illegal constructions," she said.
The Corporation asked the engineers to think beyond the properties mentioned in the PILs and complaints in order to nip the evil in bud.
He exhorted them to keep their eyes open while visiting various localities and taking action against illegal constructions.
He stressed upon the need of catching the big fish; the engineers must work to identify and take action against major defaulters of building bylaws instead of taking action against small dwelling units to increase their score of actions.
