Sanitation levels in Gurugram have improved: MCG

Gurugram: According to the public officials, Gurugram is among the few cities in the country that has been able to achieve the open defecation free status.

In addition to this achievement, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Sunday claimed that the levels of sanitation in the city have increased further.

The main reason cited for improvement is attributed to cropping up of the public toilets in the city.

As per the official data, there are over 250 that are presently functional.

"Gurugram ODF++. I congratulate all ranks of MCG, corporators, govt departments and civil society partners to take the city up to this level. Officers/officials of MCG worked tirelessly and made this happen. We want to change the culture of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram. Come become partners," said Yashpal Yadav the MCG commissioner.

"I also want to place a caveat that this achievement is not for those who do not believe in the law of land. Government systems are more or less just a small contributor in maintaining the quality. The society should also play an active role," he added.

There have also been complaints that lack of toilets is resulting in most of the labourers openly defecating in vacant areas especially in Sectors 37, 46, 39, 45 where a lot of construction activities have lately been taking place.
