RPF recovers missing luggage worth Rs 1.25 cr from railway stations, coaches in 6 months

New Delhi: During checkings of railway station premises, luggage of more than Rs one crore from train coaches were recovered by Railway Protection Force (RPF) in last six months.

The RPF said that after thorough probe, the valuables were handed over to the rightful owners.

The RPF data accessed by Millennium Post revealed that till June, left behind luggage worth Rs 1.25 crore were recovered while last year, Rs 1.25 crore luggage recovered by protection force.

"The recovered luggage mostly includes mobile phones, money, jewellery," said a senior RPF official adding that rightful owners were searched and luggage were handed over to them.

Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (Coordination) Dr AN Jha said 33 percent calls on 182 helpline number and 10 percent twitter to RPF are related with left-behind luggage.

"The success rate in searching out such luggage is 95 percent. RPF feel happy to help in such cases. RPF is continuously doing commendable work in searching out left-behind luggage and returning to its owner. It has established RPF as a helping face of Railways," said AN Jha.

The RPF data further revealed that in 2019, they have received more than 2,429 calls in helpline number till June.

"All the calls were redressed," added official adding that 1,486 complaints were received through Twitter.

Recently RPF (NDLS) personnel constable Digambhar had recovered an unattended bag at New Delhi Railway station.

The bag was opened and checked before her which contains four gold bangles, diamond bracelet, diamond rings, diamond earrings,1500 US Dollars of value approx Rs 10,00,000 in safe and sound condition.

After due verification and procedure, the bag was handed over to the rightful owner.

A senior officer told that searches are made in different ways.

"In some cases, the passengers called them in their helpline number and gave the details of the train in which he or she left the luggage behind. We informed nearest RPF post regarding the luggage," added official.

The official further added that after the train reached the destination, RPF personnel search the coaches and if some luggage found,they trace the rightful owners.
