Robbery section added in 'theft' FIR after cops re-record victims statement

New Delhi: A day after ACP Level inquiry was ordered into registration of 'theft' FIR, after a victim said that he was looted by three men on knifepoint in Shastri Park area of North East Delhi, the Delhi Police travelled to the victim's hometown in Muzaffarnagar and re-recorded his statement.

"We have added relevant sections of Robbery IPC 392 after the statement of the victim was recorded in Muzaffarnagar. The public grievance cell is also looking into the matter. Every needful action would be taken whosoever is found at fault," said Atul Thakur, DCP North East Delhi.

A sixteen-year-old boy Minhaal Zaidi was robbed by three armed robbers on December 12 at Shastri Park red light right after he deboarded a bus from Muzaffarnagar around 6:30 am. The robbers then went on a snatching spree and robbed 2 others on knifepoint. When the three victims realised they are even in numbers with the robbers, they tried to confront them. During the scuffle, the last victim on a bicycle was stabbed by the robbers before they fled.

After the PCR was informed, the victim was visited by Delhi policemen who showed Zaidi some photographs and asked him to identify the robbers. After the boy made some suggestions they left.

The boy then went to New Usmanpur Police station and narrated the ordeal. The cops, however, filed a 'Theft' case under section 379. When the matter was brought in notice of the senior officers, Additional PRO Delhi police Anil Mittal informed that a probe has been ordered and ACP Gokalpuri would investigate the case.

The police is yet to make any breakthrough in the robbery case.
