NOIDA: A 45-year old man businessman was shot dead, while his friend was critically injured, when they were attacked by four miscreants for resisting a robbery attempt in Sector-71 in Noida in the early hours of Sunday.
"The victims, Shri Niwas and Vicky Gupta, used to supply polythene to the local market.
"On Saturday night, they were returning home after collecting money from the market. Around 2 am, they were intercepted by robbers, who tried to snatch away their bag containing cash. On resisting the attempt, they shot and fatally injured them," said Arun Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Noida.
"The victims, in a serious condition, were taken to a hospital, where doctors declared Shri Niwas brought dead.
"Vikas is undergoing treatment at the hospital," added Singh.
Police said the four criminals, yet to be identified, were on two bikes.
They threatened the victims to hand over the money. When the victims refuse, they first fired at Gupta and wounded him.
Shri Niwas then jumped off his motorcycle and tried to flee with the cash bag.
The criminals, however, chased him for around 100 meters and then shot him dead, subsequently fleeing with the bag.
"We have registered a case of robbery and murder against the unknown criminals and launched a search for their arrest," said a senior official from Sector-39 police station.
