Robber duo arrested from Shahdara after brief shootout

New Delhi: Two persons were arrested by Shahdara district police on Sunday. Police claimed that the accused had shot at the police team but were overpowered.
According to the police, the accused were identified as Mukesh, native of Haryana, and his associate Vishal who lives in Bholanath Nagar in Shahdara.
On Sunday, a secret information was received at the Farsh Bazar police station that two desperate robbers are arriving near Delhi Public Library in the Anaj Mandi area in Shahdara for committing a robbery and may have firearms.
The information was shared with senior police officials.
Police claimed that acting on the information, a team of policemen was set up to carry out raids.
"The police team reached the spot and after a short while, a Scooty was noticed coming from the Anaj Mandi side towards the library.
"Members of the raiding team tried to stop the Scooty for checking. Instead of stopping, the pillion rider whipped out a country-made pistol and fired at the police team," police said on Monday.
No one was hurt in the firing and the police team overpowered both the persons on the Scooty.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad said that on interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were planning to commit a robbery in the Shahdara area.
"For the purpose, they stole a Scooty from the area of Vivek Vihar area. As per the plan, they came to the Anaj Mandi area in Shahdara looking for some easy targets.
"Source of the arms and ammunition and previous involvements are being investigated," said the DCP.
The police team recovered two country-made pistols of .315 bore along with four live cartridges two each of 12 Bore and .315 Bore. Seven empty cases were also recovered. Police also recovered 20 grams of Chili powder from them.
