Road from plastic waste in Noida

Noida: The Noida authority has started using plastic waste for resurfacing road between sector 14A and film city in Noida. Officials said that this technique has been used for the first time in Noida.

The authority is performing resurfacing of nearly a stretch of four kilometer road on both sides between Noida entry gate and film city with a mixture of bitumen and plastic. Officials claim that these roads will be durable and it will create a plastic coating over the road and not allow water to penetrate.

Detailing over the newly adopted process of road surfacing, a senior officer of

Noida authority said that nearly 8 percent of the plastic is used in the mixture which also contribute towards the durability of road.

"The plastic waste including wrappers to plastic bags are shredded and heated at a particular temperature. It is them mixed with bitumen and the mixture is finally heated before being used for the construction purpose. The roads made from waste plastic are more durable against extreme weather conditions like floods and heat as compared to the conventional roads," a senior Noida authority officer said.

The authority has also planned to set up a plant for the use of shredded plastic in construction soon and will also sign an MoU for collection of plastic waste which will also benefit ragpickers.

Meanwhile, the authority will also organise a prize distribution ceremony to encourage all the hotels, RWAs, hospitals, schools, government offices and other market associations for cleanliness. The authority will give away prize to the best performer in these categories which will maintain cleanliness.
