Rickshaw-puller arrested for murder of 75-yr-old woman in Shalimar Bagh

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Monday arrested a rickshaw-puller for robbing and murdering an elderly woman at her residence in north west Delhi's Shalimar Bagh on January 26.
Cops believed the initial suspects to be the plumber and electricians, whom the victim had called to fix a motor.
However, close monitoring revealed that the rickshaw-puller had disguised as a plumber to gain entry into thw woman's house.
"We have arrested the accused, who has been identified as Budhai, a resident of Jahanirpuri. He had earlier been involved in a theft case of Samaypur Badli.
"Two earrings, one gold necklace, gold bangles and mobile of the deceased has been recovered from the accused," said Aslam Khan, DCP (North West).
The victim, 75-year-old Raj Rani Grover, was found lying dead in a pool of blood by her grandson, who came by her house on January 36 morning.
Soon, police were informed and local inquiry revealed that Raj Rani had called two people, a plumber and an electrician, to fix the motor at her house.
It was revealed that a third person was also present too, disguised as a plumber.
"Soon, teams were formed and a search for the accused was launched. Around 15 teams, under Inspectors, were formed for door-to-door survey, to check whether the suspect was known to anybody in the area. All dossiers, jail bail release, tenants etc, were checked and teams also worked on labour chowks, so as to identify the accused," Khan said.
"Finally on January 29 morning, the accused was arrested from H-3 Block, Jahangir Puri," she added.
Despite the arrest of the accused, the incident has brought to the forefront serious lapses in security of senior citizens in the city. The victim was staying alone in the house, despite her two sons living nearby. The accused is likely to have found the old woman an easy victim, thus targetting her.
