Gurugram: In a tragic incident, Hans Raj who was only a year-and-a half died after coming under the wheels of a vehicle. The mishap occurred in the Rajendar Park area on Saturday. Hans Raj was playing outside his house when he got severely injured by the vehicle of the neighbour Bijender who was reversing his car. The occurrences of children losing their lives through vehicular accidents are not a new phenomenon. On November 19 last year, a five-year-old girl died after being hit by Mercedes at the old Delhi road. In December last year a three-year-old girl lost her life after being hit by a car when she was crossing the road at Manesar.
In 2017, 481 people lost their lives due to accident in the city. Significantly more than 100 of such death were caused due to rash and negligent driving. Faulty road designs, poor signage systems and poor management of traffic in major roads of Gurugram are making it accident prone claim experts. Shortage of facilities like foot over bridges on busy city roads also adds to the dangers for pedestrians.
In the past, the District Authorities were forced to build Foot over Bridges (FOB's) by the local residents owing to death of pedestrians by movement of high speed vehicles at Gurugram Faridabad area. Yet, residents complain that poor maintenance and incomplete work has resulted in people still not using the FOB.
