Resident doctor held for rape of medical intern

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Wednesday said they have arrested a senior resident doctor of a prominent north Delhi hospital for his involvement in rape case inside the hospital premises.
The accused had sexually assaulted a medical intern on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Jatin Narwal stated that as soon as the incident was reported, they started investigation and soon arrested the accused.
Police said that the incident took place on Tuesday night, when the accused invited the victim for dinner, inside the hospital premises.
"The victim was working under the accused, when the matter was reported to police we registered a case and arrest was made," said a police official.
Delhi Police data, accessed by Millennium Post, claimed that around 3,672 accused were arrested for their involvement in rape cases between 2016 and August 2017.
Over the same period, more than 6,000 people were arrested on the charges of molestation.
According to the data, around 2,049 rape cases were reported last year.
Investigation in these rape cases revealed that in 38.99 per cent of the registered cases, the accused were friends of the victim.
The involvement of neighbors in rape cases was found to be 19.08 per cent.
Relatives were also found in the involvement of rape cases as their percentage was 14.20.
The data also claims that in 3.86 per cent cases, employers or co-workers were involved, whereas in 20.50 per cent cases, other known persons were the culprits.
Police also said that involvement of strangers in rape cases in Delhi has shown a decline – from 3.57 per cent in 2016 to 3.37 per cent in 2017.
