Property dealer shot at in Gurugram, battles for life

Gurugram: Almost a week after a couple was shot at in Badshahpur area which resulted in the death of the husband, there was another shooting in broad daylight in Gurugram on Tuesday. This time, the victim was the 40-year-old Om Veer Dagar. The murderous attack took place in the Hans Enclave area at around 8 am.
According to district police, the attack was carried out by three unknown men who had come on a bike and fired three rounds of bullets at the victim, each piercing through his body. He is being treated in a private hospital where his condition is believed to be critical. The law enforcement officials are yet to ascertain the real motive behind the attack.
As Dagar was a property dealer and supplied building construction materials, there is speculation that his rivals may have tried to eliminate him due to differences on payment issues. Earlier too, various property dealers have been shot dead in the city for similar reasons. The case of political rivalry has also not been ruled out as Om Veer is the younger brother of a Congress leader Dharamveer Dagar who is popular at the local level. "We have registered a case at Sadar police station and began our search to nab the three men who were involved in this shooting incident. We also hope that Dagar recovers soon so that he can provide us with more details about the case," said Inspector Ravinder Kumar, spokesperson of the Gurugram police.
Taking cognisance of the fact that there was a protest and it was affecting the traffic movement in Sohna Road, the district police issued various advisories of the traffic situation on the social media platforms. The shooting on busy streets of Gurugram is not a new phenomenon. In a worrying trend, the brazen incidents are not only reported from the outskirts of the city but also from densely-populated areas of MG road, Sohna road, Jharsa road and Sector-9 A. In the past, dreaded gangsters, gangster's spouse, realtors, former journalist have been eliminated by their rivals through criminal acts.
On February 11, there were two incidents of shooting in broad day light. In the first incident that was reported from Badshahpur, 17 bullets were pumped into the body of the deceased while in the second, the victim named Vijay narrowly escaped. The eyewitness to the incident and the person who is believed to have saved Vijay was, however, gunned down on February 13.
