Professor booked for raping ex-student

Noida: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her former professor in sector 16 A of Noida on Thursday. Police are yet to arrest the accused who is an assistant professor at IIT Jodhpur in electronics development.

According to police, the accused, identified as Vivek Vijayvargiya (45), had come to attend the raising day seminar of the GAIL India Institute and was staying at GAIL's training institute in sector 16 A.

Cops said that the incident came to light on Thursday when the victim was called by the professor at a room at the institute to discuss job opportunities.

"The woman was known to the accused since 2000 as he taught her mathematics from 2000-2001 in a private academy in Kota. She subsequently got married and shifted to Delhi. On Thursday morning, the accused had come to Noida to attend a seminar and called the woman to his room from Delhi on pretext of offering her job. When the woman showed him her resume, he asked her the price which she can pay against the job offer and allegedly forced himself on her," a senior police officer.

Police officials said that the woman somehow managed to rush from the spot and reached a nearby police station to lodge complaint.

"Based on the complaint received, we have registered a case of rape against the professor under relevant sections of IPC. The accused is absconding at the moment while the woman has been sent for the medical examination. We have launched a probe into the case while appropriate actions will be taken against the accused," said Rajbir Singh Chauhan, Station House Officer of sector 20 police station in Noida.

Meanwhile, the professor's family have denied all the allegations made against him saying that the woman has tried to file a false complaint.
