Prisoner escapes from police custody in Gurugram

Gurugram: In a major security lapse, a prisoner who was arrested by Gurugram police a year ago was able to escape from its custody late Thursday night.

The criminal has been identified as Shahid and was arrested in Pataudi for various incidents of burglary.

Taking cognisance of the fact that he had also commited acts of crime in other parts of the city, the crime branch of Bilaspur branch had taken his custody for interrogation.

According to the police, he was able to hoodwink the interrogators by requesting them to go to washroom. On the pretext of relieving himself, he later escaped.

"What has happened is unfortunate and will not be allowed to occur again. We have registered the case under section 224 of IPC and have begun our search. He will be arrested soon," said Inspector Ravinder Singh, spokesperson, Gurugram police.
