Pregnant woman crushed to death

NEW DELHI: In a tragic accident, a 28-year-old pregnant woman was crushed to death by a truck in Mangolpuri area of Outer Delhi on Tuesday.

The woman has been identified as Janki Devi.

Reports said she was 5 months pregnant and was going to Sanjay Gandhi hospital along with her husband for routine check up when the bike they were riding on collided with a speeding truck. Her husband escaped with minor injuries.

The impact was severe enough to throw Janki under the wheels and the truck ran over her. The woman succumbed to her injuries minutes later. She was a resident of Ranikheda in Delhi.

The passerby soon made a PCR call and informed police about the accident. A PCR rushed to the spot and the woman was taken to the hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. The cops soon arrested the accused driver and impounded the vehicle. "I was taking my wife to the hospital for routine checkup as she was pregnant. Suddenly, a truck hit us from behind and my wife came under the wheels. She died on the spot," said Uma Shankar, husband of deceased woman.
