Posing as cops, three Iranians arrested for cheating Afghanis

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police arrested three Iranian nationals for targeting Afghan nationals, visiting GK1 for medical treatment or diagnosis at Health plus diagnostic centre. They have been identified as NoorMohamdi, Reza Kohan Khaki and Farhad Abbas.

Police said that they came in their Toyata Corola Altis G-blue colour car and approached the Afghan nationals as police officers. They then, without stepping out of the car, asked then if they are carrying any narcotic substance. On this pretext, they sought the purse of the victim and after searching through it they then returned it to him. However, in the meantime, they stole the USD counted in their purse and escaped with it. By the time, the victim realised they escaped from the spot in their car.

"To bust the gang, we got one of our Head constable Kailash to be dressed up as an Afghan national. The accused persons showed him a card posing as police officials and sought his purse as per their modus operandi. Head Constable Kailash signalled and the police team overpowered them with great efficiency as the accused persons tried to flee by driving away; currencies of several countries have been recovered from them," said DCP South Vijay Kumar.
