Posing as commuters, they took lift in car, raped male driver

Gurugram: Cases of people whom you give lift committing theft are nothing new in the city. However, in a recent arrest of a culprit by the Gurugram police, a shocking revelation has come to the fore.

The fake travellers not only used to commit theft with the drivers but in one of the cases they also raped one of the male victims. The arrested person has been identified as Praveen who belongs to Jhajjar district in Haryana. He is believed to be the head of the gang that used to commit such forms of act.

Earlier, the police had arrested one of his colleagues from where they got the leads of Praveen. He and his gang used to operate at Shankar Chowk and IFFCO Chowk area of Gurugram where there is heavy movement of traffic. On August 21 at 9:30 pm, Praveen and colleagues were able to get a lift in a Hyundai Accent car. After getting the lift, they forced the victim to drive to Dwarka where they snatched his mobile phones.

They also forced him to reveal his ATM password account number and later took out Rs 62,000 from his account. The most shocking incident, however, came when the victim's hands were tied and he was blindfolded and raped by Praveen and his colleagues. The accused has been charged under sections of 377 (homosexuality), 365 (abduction), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code and 25-54-59 of the illegal arms act.

The law enforcement officials are now in the process to figure out whether there have been more male victims who were raped.

"It may be possible that they may be indulging in the act of committing unnatural sex in order to intimidate their victims so that they do not go and report the matter. As of now, one case like this has come to our notice. In the course of investigation we will get to know more detail from him," said a senior police official from Gurugram police.

There have been various cases that have been reported in the past where the abductions have taken place in the most crowed parts of the city. Last month, a businessman along with his friend was kidnapped by a group of people in Manesar. He was later rescued in Rajasthan.
