Poll fever grips DU

New Delhi: While Delhi University is abuzz with activities related to student elections, the poll fever has started griping the city colleges. The ABVP focusing on the topic of nationalism and the agenda of NSUI will be on democratic campus during the DU students' union (DUSU) election. Meanwhile, most student parties are yet to start campaigning and decide their panels. As of now, they are interacting with freshers.
The saffron ideology affiliated ABVP is all set to initiate campaigning from August 17 or 18, while Congress-led NSUI will be expecting to release it manifesto on August 17 with points like democracy, equal status to all colleges and to reduce DU fees in all the colleges. Ironically, Aam Aadmi Party led Chattra Yuva Sangharash Samiti (CYSS), the student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will not be contesting the varsity elections this year too. However, it would be focusing on elections only at the college level.
Similarly, the left-backed AISA will be seen raising issues such as freedom of speech, seat cuts and hostel. "Most parties are yet to decide the panel due to which lobbying at the student level is on. The delay in admissions coupled with the online process hurt the parties and their campaign plans," said a source at DU.
Meanwhile, ABVP sources said, " ABVP would be working on special issues to DU such as special chance, U- special buses, discount in metro fares, hostels, girls common room and basic infrastructure."
