Police to heighten vigil for 500 Durga Puja pandals and Ramlila in Delhi

New Delhi: For this year's festive season, Delhi Police have started their preparation for the security arrangement as they have to provide security to more than 500 Durga Puja pandals and Ramlila happening in the Capital.
Police said that to curb the menace of eve-teasing and molestation, personnel will be deployed in plain clothes.
The Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post stated that they have received around 289 Ramlila and Dusherra application from the city whereas around 227 application of Durga Puja celebration.''
"The application consists of both small and big Ramlila and Puja Pandal which will be heavily guarded by us," said a senior police official from Delhi Police.
The data claimed that the highest number of applications came from north-west district for Ramlila and Dusherra which was 51 whereas for Durga Puja, south-east and south west received 62 applications, while south Delhi received 57 applications .
Not only that, 39 applications of Ravan Dahan have been received by city police.
Talking about the security, one of the police officer stated that during festive season, they start their preparation from several months.
"The private security guards who are deployed at the Ramlila are given training by Delhi Police about how to check and frisk," said a police official.
Recently in Outer Delhi, several guards were given training to handle the situation.
In the recently held Inter-State co-ordination meeting of Eastern Range of Delhi Police with Meerut Range, Uttar Pradesh Police, anti-terror measures during the upcoming festival season were one of the priorities.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern range) Ravindra Yadav stated that in the meeting the security measures for the festival season Navratra, Dussehra, Deepawali were discussed.
Joint pickets checking and patrolling at the border points and close surveillance, sharing of information and action against interstate gangs and criminals were also the point of discussion.
According to police, they will also keep a tight vigil on eve-teasers as police personnel, including woman constables will be deployed in plain clothes nearby pandals and Ramlila.
According to a police data of central Delhi, around 43 cases of molestation and 17 cases of eve-teasing were registered during 2015 and 2016 for three months (October, November and December.
Among them, nine cases of eve-teasing was solved with the arrest of nine accused and 33 cases of molestation were worked out where police arrested 41 persons.
