Police nab kingpin of interstate drug cartel

New Delhi: Special Cell of Delhi Police on Sunday claimed that they have arrested a 29-year-old man from Bareilly Bypass. According to the police, the accused is the kingpin of the inter-state narcotic drug cartel. Three key players of the gang have already been arrested along with the recovery of 20 kgs of high-grade heroin worth Rs 80 crore in the international market. Police identified the accused as Refauqat, a rewardee of Rs 1 Lakh, and absconding kingpin of interstate drug cartel.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav claimed that on October 1, two members were arrested with 20 kgs of high-grade heroin worth more than Rs 80 crores in the international market. On October 5, at the instance of the arrested persons, one Najiul Haque (69) was nabbed.

"Since then, the kingpin of this cartel, Refauqat was absconding and knowingly concealing his whereabouts to evade arrest," said DCP Sanjeev Yadav.

Teams were stationed in UP West, Uttrakhand and West Bengal continuously for a long time. Finally, on the intervening night of 06/07 December, Refauqat was apprehended from Dhantia Road, Bareilly Bypass, UP, while he was again in search of the new hideout. He was brought to Delhi and produced before the court concerned.

Police further claimed that Refauqat purchased a second-hand truck and started working as a transporter. In the process of transportation of goods, he came in the contact of Haque, who was already involved in the transportation of illicit drugs under the shadow of his sale and purchase business of goods, vehicles and tyres. Being fantasized with the earnings and lifestyle of Haque, he joined the business of smuggling of heroin and created his own drug cartel.

"His modus operandi is to allure drivers and helpers to assist him in smuggling of heroin against payment of hugebucks to them, " police added.

If he has to get delivered the consignment somewhere away to his contact, he used to tell the name of that contact and as instructed, the carrier had to reach the designated place in Delhi on given day and time and the person concerned.

The receiver then would come to receive the drug consignment. The identity of the receiver is to be kept secret and never disclosed to such carrier.
