Police keep security high at Rohtak border

Gurugram: Gurugram may not have faced the brunt of the violence vented out by the Dera followers, however, that did not provide free time for top officials of Gurugram police who were entrusted with key responsibilities by the state government.
While MCG Commissioner V Umashankar was appointed as Special Commissioner for maintaining law and order in Sirsa, Sumit Kumar DCP (crime) was in charge of moving Ram Rahim from Panchkula to Rohtak.
Besides the senior public officials, there were many other junior police personnel that were deployed in sensitive regions of the state to maintain law and order.
This is not for the first time when the services of senior public officials from the district have been sought by the state government.
Last year following the violent Jat agitations, many police officials were sent to the troubled region to placate the situation.
Earlier this year as well, when the Jats had again started protesting, Gurugram public officials were again utilised by the state government.
For DCP (crime) Sumit Kuha, this was the second time when he and his team had to deal with violent followers of the godmen. He was one of the members of Haryana Police that was responsible in getting hold of Rampal in Hissar. His arrest in 2014 has also resulted in bloodshed at various parts.
A senior member of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) was deployed as special commissioner for maintaining law and order situation in Sirsa.
Being the city where the main headquarters of Dera Sacha Sauda is situated, it was considered to be the most vulnerable places where violence could erupt.
"It is matter of great pride when our services are sought beyond our district. It always provides you with an impetus to take the challenge and deliver on the responsibility that has been entrusted upon you by the government and the society," said a senior public official.
