Police bust gambling syndicate, 21 arrested

New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a gambling syndicate with the arrested of 21 people including three women. Police also seized 20 mobile phones, 14 packets of playing cards, 6 vehicles and Rs.1.5 lakh from them.
On the intervening night of January 29 and 30 about 12.30 am, a secret information was received regarding gambling activities at Safdarjung Enclave. The South Delhi police immediately swung into action and formed a raiding team.
At about 1:15 am, a trap was laid around the premises and a decoy customer was sent to Surender Residency to verify the facts which revealed that 15-20 persons including some women were present at 3rd floor of the premises and people were gambling on a bed in the hall along with stake money. Cooks and helpers were also available in the premises to facilitate the gamblers. "Immediately, a raid was conducted by the police team. After seeing the raiding party, the accused persons started running here and there in a bid to flee. Nearly 2-3 persons even fell down and suffered injuries in their hands and legs," said DCP, South, Romil Baaniya.
From the premises, 21 accused persons have been arrested by cops. Investigation revealed that people used to visit the above this premises for gambling at late in the night and leave the place in the morning. Further interrogation revealed that the gambling syndicate was operating at the above premises since last 2-3 days.
