Police arrest gangster, recover pistol, stolen bike

Delhi Police have claimed to have arrested a gangster, Ashu (26), after a brief shoot-out in North Delhi's Timarpur area. A semi-automatic pistol along with four used cartridges and one stolen motorcycle were recovered from the accused.

The accused was wanted in the shoot-out case registered at Pul Prahladpur police station and a reward of Rs 25, 000 was declared by Delhi Police on his arrest. On December 1 2016, the accused, along with a group of eight people travelling in a Maruti Swift car, had tried to loot the occupants of another car. Later, they also robbed a man off his scooty and were intercepted by the local police. The accused fired at the police and fled. The accused were identified as Asif, Mukkaram and Danish.

Ashu was arrested on February 24, when police received information that he would come near Nirmal Hardya Observation House at Timar Pur and would meet his associated to commit a crime.

Ashu was spotted at the said place and when confrontated, he and the police exchanged fire with the former being over-powered by the police.

During questioning, Ashu disclosed that he joined Asif's gang after getting arrested for auto theft. The police are now looking for the other accused.
