PFWS starts 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Week' in all centres

New Delhi: On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Police Families Welfare Society (PFWS) started Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Week" from September 25 to October 2 in all its welfare centres keeping with the pledge to curb plastic pollution in the country. The campaign includes curbing of plastic bags, cups, plates, small bottles, straws and certain types of sachets littered in the police colonies.

The basic concept of the campaign includes spreading awareness amongst the residents of police colonies to eliminate the single-use plastic, conservation of water and protecting the flora & fauna for a sustainable future.

President (PFWS) along with team leaders, senior officers of Delhi Police, residents participated in the cleanliness drive at Shalimar Bagh police colony on Thursday. President (PFWS) addressed the residents of the locality and praised the initiative taken by the residents, who made bags out of waste, and emphasized that the plastic bags may look quite useful for the time being, but with time it would only harm the environment and vindictive for the human being.

In totality, it was stressed upon for proper segregation and recycling of the waste in a manner that protects and restores the environment, ensures the cleanliness and hygiene of neighbourhood and in the process creates sustainable livelihoods for a whole host of the locality.
