Over 300 cases of human trafficking in last three years

New Delhi: In the last three years, more than 300 cases of human trafficking were reported in the national Capital, data from the Delhi Police has revealed.
Law enforcement officials claimed that they have tightened the noose on traffickers, rescuing over 300 girls as a result.
The Delhi Police data, accessed by Millennium Post, claimed that 174 cases of human trafficking were registered in 2015, whereas in 2016, the number decreased to 66.
Meanwhile, last year, 76 cases were registered with city police, claimed the data.
According to police sources, during rescue operations, several girls were saved from the clutches of traffickers.
In 2015, the city police successfully rescued 167 girls, while the succeeding year witnessed the rescue of 93 girls.
Last year, 55 girls were rescued by law enforcement officials across the city.
Over these three years, Delhi Police arrested 271 persons for their involvement in cases of human trafficking.
"In 2015, the city police arrested 114 accused persons, whereas 106 accused were nabbed in 2016.
"Last year, 51 persons were arrested for their involvement in modern-day slavery," stated the police data.
Delhi Police has a strong Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), which comes under the Crime Branch and headed by DCP (Crime) Joy Tirkey.
"All the cases which came to AHTU were investigated properly," said the DCP.
The network in most human trafficking cases works in a planned and organized manner, with the kingpin hiring numerous people, including women.
The people involved in trafficking are often changed, between the journey from the point of origin to the destination, so that no one has clue about the members involved.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is expected to come out with the post-rescue guidelines for trafficked children survivors rescued from Delhi-NCR.
Sources said that Delhi has been a transit point, as well as a destination for traffickers, with girls often taken to other states from Delhi.
The investigation in Human Trafficking cases disclosed that fake placement agencies are mostly involved in trafficking.
"The traffickers lure girls on the pretext of a good life in metropolitan cities and then they take them to cities, with the help of fake placement agencies. The girls are then placed to a house, after which the harassment of these girls starts at the hand of their employer," said sources.
