Over 20,000 errant vehicles challaned in Ggn in 9 hrs

Gurugram: The practice of refusing to abide by traffic rules among citizens of Gurugram came to the forefront again, after Gurugram Traffic Police collected whopping challan amount of Rs 25 lakh, in just nine hours.
The penalties were imposed under the initiative 'Zero Tolerance Day', obsevered on Saturday.
Till 6 pm, the number of vehicles challaned was 21,769.
The number of vehicles that was impounded by law enforcement officials was 102.
Normally, Gurugram police challans around 3,500 vehicles in a day.
However, on Saturday, the Zero Tolerance Drive resulted in over 21,000 vehicles being fined.
This is not the first time that Gurugram police has conducted initiatives numerous errant drivers were brought to the book.
Despite such efforts, the rate of accidents in Gurugram is still alarmingly high.
In 2017, as many as 481 people reportedly lost their lives to accidents on the city roads.
According to an official report, a majority of the accidents happened as the vehicle was moving in the wrong direction.
However, the traffic police claims that there has been a crackdown after repeated complaints of rash, drunken and underage driving.
